Info Needed: Doll with metal disc (phonograph) in stomach
Janet Marcoaldi (accelerate.att.net)

Son bought house in Buffalo, NY. Found doll in attic. Cloth body with rubber arms and legs and porceline or wooden head. Metal disc in stomach with label that says: "talking unit manufactured expressly for J.L.Sch.......Co. N.Y. by Warner & Sons Pasadena Cal. USA Patent 1998149". Looked up patent # and it was issued to Jesse J. Warner in 1935 for a manually operated phonograph. When you wind the disc in the dolls stomach there are sounds eminating, but I can't make out the sounds. I would like to know the name of the company unit was made for, but so far am unable to locate it because last name is unreadable. thought it might be from the Buffalo area as during the depression times a person might have purchased that doll from the Buffalo area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same doll. It was my grandmother's doll. The full name is j.l. schilling company. Mine makes noises as well, but i have no idea what it's saying. Any idea what the doll is worth?

Hi, Stephanie,
Did you get any info? I have a similar doll, voice unit is in the back. She's 21 inches tall, cloth body, plastic extremities and head. It is my doll but I have NO info on it and would love to at least know the manufacturer. There is not much on the internet that I can find. When she worked she said, "Up, Mommy, pick me up." And then there was a cooing noise. Now, it can't be wound up tight enough to activate the record. Thanks in advance for any info.

Hey Chaz - Thanks for the help. Do you have a jpeg of the ad that you could post? Do you know what year the ad was from? I'm not even sure what year the doll was made.

I have the same doll with the patent number 1998149 and I can't seem to find any information on this doll. Does anyone have any idea what the dolls name is or what the worth of the doll is? I've searched high and low and can't find any dolls remotely similiar to this one. My doll has the phongraph system in the front of the stomach. If anyone has any information this would be greatly appreciated.
